SPRING INTO Fashion

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon of the latest trends, I prefer to ease myself into a new season and let my look evolve organically. There are tons of fun trends for spring that I will be detailing in upcoming posts. Today, I’ll be sharing with you a few ideas to ease yourself into the new season with a spring (I couldn’t resist) in your step.

Pantone, the world renowned authority on colour, has declared that the colour for 2012 is Tangerine Tango.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Now unfortunately, tangerine is not a universally flattering colour. If it isn’t your best shade, try incorporating this trend in an accessory that is not near your face such as a shoe, bracelet, or nail colour. If you’re a bit bolder, try a tangerine-hued pant or skirt.

While tangerine is this year’s signature colour, colour in general is a huge trend for spring. A great way to incorporate this trend is with coloured denim. For the best fit, look for a pair that is slim or straight cut with stretch. Wear them now with ballet flats or pumps and later with flat or heeled sandals. If you are self conscious about drawing attention to your lower half, pair them with a tunic or button down shirt in a neutral colour that hits just below your hip crease. Still hesitant about coloured denim? Pick up a pair from Joe Fresh at the low commitment price of $19 – if you wear them only once or twice and decide they’re not for you, you’ve essentially lost only the cost of popcorn and a movie.

When I think of warmer months, glowing radiant skin comes to mind. After four months of winter, however, your skin can be a little dull and pale. My solution: tinted moisturizer. Ideal for both makeup mavens and those who prefer to go as natural as possible, tinted moisturizers sheer, lightweight texture gives a natural finish and a healthy glowing complexion. Even better, many have an spf component. To find your perfect shade, head to Sephora where one of their associates can assess your needs and recommend a suitable product. If you take it home and decide it isn’t for you, you can return it for a full refund.
