Falling for Fall Fashions- Black and Blue are In!

Cooler temperatures have arrived and the kids have headed back to school. We have a few more days of summer left, but fall is definitely on its way.  With each season come new trends and styles. While each is exciting in its own right, somehow fall fashion manages to trump them all. Even if judging by the fall fashion magazines alone (hello 600 page Vogue magazine!) it seems everyone is excited for the upcoming season.

Matchstick pants made their way down many a runway for fall 2012. Slim cut and slightly cropped, these pants look best on those who are either on the tall side, have long legs (and shorter torsos) or are just very petite all over.  Pair them with a button down shirt or relaxed sweater and pumps or loafers for a stylish look.

Black and blue was previously a combo to avoid unless the look you were going for was ‘bruise’. Not so anymore! This season, many designers embraced this colour combo with gusto. Any shade of blue will do, but to look most current navy or darker shades are best. An easy way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is with black tights under a blue dress or by wearing a black dress with blue shoes (or vice versa). Most of us have a navy or black coat; why not pair them this season with black or blue accessories?

Long gone are the days of not wearing white after Labour Day. Winter white has become a staple look on many fall/winter runways. This year, many designers showed this look head to toe. If instead of a protective bubble your day may involve coffee, a pen, children etc, you may want to instead incorporate winter white in pieces. Try it in an evening coat for a chic look that will turn heads.

Full skirts are a great addition to your closet this season. Pair them with tailored pieces to keep the look neat and tidy. When deciding which trends to incorporate into your wardrobe, it is important to remember that nothing is more stylish than wearing clothes that suit your body type and lifestyle. If you look better in a pencil skirt than a full skirt, , the pencil skirt in a trendy colour is the way to go.

If you are a bit hesitant to add to your wardrobe right now, you may be at an advantage as most fall sales will be starting by the end of October. By that time, you will definitely have seen all of these trends out and about and can decide more definitively what new styles and combinations you’d like to try.

Happy Shopping!
