Madonna is a woman on the move. With Material Girl, the line for juniors that she co-designs with daughter Lourdes, already a commercial success, Madonna has set her eyes on a new market with the launch of her shoe line, Truth or Dare by Madonna. The collection includes everything from lace up over the knee boots, a favourite of Madge’s both onstage and off, to wearable everyday flat brown boots. The creative director behind the line is Arianne Phillips, the pop icon’s long time stylist. Phillips worked closely with Madonna to design the looks for her most recent world tour, MDNA, which is the fifth tour the two have worked on together.
“Her (Madonna’s) fingers are really on this brand,” Phillips told Footwear News. “The first thing I did was remind her of all the shoes she wore over the years, and we took the styles that we can’t live without. You can always depend on her to bring her style and provocateur quality, but she also has a very feminine perspective.”
The new line is designed to appeal to women ages 27-50 and truly includes something for everyone. The collection features over 60 styles that run the gamut from flats to heels and over the knee boots. The footwear line is following in the footsteps of Madonna’s recently released fragrance line of the same name. It is suspected that other lines will follow under the Truth or Dare tagline and include clothing, lingerie and accessories.
Sharp fashionistas checking out the line will note the similarities between some of Madge’s designs and those of high end designers. Love the look of Christian Louboutin’s Pigalle spiked pumps but not the price tag? Enter Madonna’s studded pump – while not an exact replica, you can get the same look and feel for a fraction of the price. Retail price points for Madonna’s shoes range from $89-349US (those Louboutins are over $1000!) and they will be in select stores starting on August 1. Among other outlets, the line will be carried by Macy’s and Nordstrom in the States, online at Asos.com and at the Bay in Canada.
