Affordable Care Act: What You Need to Know About Potential Changes

The Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010, and has not yet been repealed or replaced. According to the Health Care Authority, they will continue administering the program in accordance with the law. As of 2016, roughly 20 million people are covered by the Affordable Care Act between all coverage provisions including the Marketplace and Medicaid. On January 11th, 2017, the U.S. Senate met during a late-night session known as a “vote-a-rama,” to vote on budget resolutions. In a vote of 51-49, the Senate approved a budget reconciliation bill which would allow Congress to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act that deal specifically with government spending and/or taxes. These include the expansion of Medicaid, cost assistance and mandates for individuals and employers. The House will now vote on these budget measures, likely as early as Friday, January
