US Sees Worst Flu Season in Nearly a Decade, CDC Data Indicate

ABC World News Tonight reported that “new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal what so many have suspected: This is the worst flu season in nearly a decade.” Correspondent Steve Osunsami reported that CDC data indicate “the flu is still spreading wildly, from 27 states reporting high activity last week to 32 this week,” and that “more than eight percent of all deaths in this country are from the flu and pneumonia, the highest we’ve seen this winter.” Alicia Fry, MD, of the CDC explained, “We’re having a lot of activity everywhere all at the same time.” ABC World News Tonight reported that the nationwide flu epidemic is “showing no signs of slowing down.” In total, 32 states are reporting high levels of flu activity, and “at least 30 children” have been killed nationwide by the flu.
